AMD announced a new desktop GPU at its CES 2022 press conference, with the 14,803 INR Radeon RX 6500 XT. It was launched on 19 January.
It’s great to see a new GPU entering the budget arena, we hope that AMD has been able to find production capacity to create enough of what will likely be a very in-demand graphics card.
AMD stated that partner cards will ship from 14,803 INR, so we will see boards with higher sticker prices from the off. Still, there are some versions coming out with reference pricing. And it’s great for anyone who would like to build a gaming PC on a budget.
AMD didn’t show any specs, showing only its 2.6GHz Game Clock. This game clock is the fastest sustained GPU clock rate ever with 16 compute units & 16MB of Infinity Cache. That translates into 1,024 RDNA 2 cores, half the cores of the RX 6600 XT, and a fair chunk down on the RX 6600 too.
AMD didn’t notice one important thing though rumors are confirmed by Lenovo. The memory capacity, 4 GB GDDR6 is very low even for 1080p gaming.
But AMD said that half of the gamers are still running the likes of RX 570 or GTX 1650 & this card will deliver 1080p gaming up to 59% higher than that.
AMD didn’t show slides of its relative performance against an RX 5500 XT. Affordable RDNA 2 cards did not really move the game forward as compared to the original RDNA-based RX 5000-series.
